Karen's Quilt

I didn't mention this in the previous post about camping, but the first night it sounded like we were going to get hit pretty bad by a storm.  So around 3am I decided to step outside and see what I could see.  My tent is only about four feet high at the door so you have to stoop over to get through it.  One moment I was trying to get through the door, the next moment I was on my butt staring up at the sky.  Apparently on the way down I tried to break my fall with my right arm.  Not a clever move.  The next morning I thought I'd just pulled the muscle badly.  By Wednesday when it wasn't improving at all I went to see the doctor.  Not a pulled muscle at all:  I had fractured my shoulder.  Not horrifically because there is no bruising or other signs.  But a definite crack showing in the x-rays.  So it's six weeks in a sling for me.  Yesterday was my first day back at work in the sling.  It didn't take long for everyone to make up their own stories of why I was wearing it.  After all, falling out of a tent is pretty lame.  One guy thought wrestling a grizzly (and her two cubs, chimed someone else) to save my grandchildren sounded much more interesting.  That is only one example, most ending with "you should have seen the other guy".  :)

Anyway, my family and friends have been extremely helpful while my right arm is out of commission.  Tempe took me to the grocery store and to the library.  Andrew helped stow away all the camping gear and another quick trip to the store to get what I forgot when Tempe took me.  A friend, M, at work is picking me up and taking me home and two guys that work with her have volunteered to ferry me if she has to stay late.  Another friend, D, is in charge of fixing my hair once I get to work.  Judy tried the first day but did a pitiful job.  D has girls she has to fix ponytails for everyday and stepped in when she saw Judy's efforts.  And everyone, including the auditors in for the next two weeks, have been very patient with my enforced lefthandedness.  Before one meeting this morning, I was lamenting over why all the scroll bars were on the right side of the page.  The lefties in the meeting just smiled and nodded knowingly.
